Last weekend, we visited Medieval Times. It had been a year since our last visit. We had such a good time the first time, so we were excited about another opportunity to go.
Medieval Times is a family dinner theater. The experience features a 4-course meal and Medieval jousting tournament, including knights, swordplay and horsemanship. There are currently ten Medieval Times locations in North America. We visited the Baltimore location at the Arundel Mills Outlet Mall.
BEFORE THE SHOW
After checking in, we made our way into the castle. Upon entering the castle, they gave us our crowns. We were going to be cheering on the Red Knight, so our crowns were also red.
We gathered outside the arena in the Hall of Arms until it was time to be seated. It was adorned in a lot of Medieval décor.
They called the guests who had purchased the VIP package first. The packages include VIP seating, priority castle and seating access, as well as other extras. We had a regular ticket. After the guests with packages were seated, they called other guests by their colors.
THE MEAL
The 4- course dinner is served in true Medieval style -- no silverware! At our seats, there was a plate, mug and bowl. The menu is a set menu, with a vegetarian option available. They also will substitute certain items if there is a food allergy. The chef came out to talk to us because my daughters and I all have a peanut and tree nut allergy.
The regular meal includes garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, dessert and two rounds of select beverages.
The beverages include non-alcoholic choices like soda and lemonade or you can purchase beer, wine or specialty cocktails for an additional charge.
The first and second course were the garlic bread and tomato bisque. When we went last year, they substituted a plate of hummus and carrots and celery for the garlic bread because of my allergy, but I told the chef the garlic bread should be fine.
The next course was the roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn and herb-basted potato. My kids really liked the food, especially the chicken.
Dessert was ice cream with a butterscotch topping.
Overall, the food was good. I would have preferred to have some utensils and more napkins. But, it was manageable. The server came around towards the end with a doggy bag if we wanted to take any food home and a wet towelette to use.
THE SHOW
Based on where your seat is, you cheer for one of the six knights. The crowns you wear are colored accordingly and you can even buy banners and flags to help cheer on your knight.
The knights participate in competitions like jousting and sword fights. My kids really enjoyed watching all of it.
Overall, we had a wonderful night at Medieval Times and we would definitely visit again!
